About Maddy at Home
I am here to provide a home from home for retired Seniors on the internet, with a special place in my heart for those that are new to computers, tablets or phones and may need some assistance. Feel free to vent your frustrations here (no swearing please!), where you can find help to stay happy, healthy and safe in retirement by keeping up with the latest trends, finding online resources and making friends around the world.
It’s all about adapting to change, making life a little bit easier, and I hope it will be fun too!
Let me tell you a little bit about myself
My name is Madeleine and you can call me Maddy for short. I was born in London, England, in the depth of winter, probably in the middle of a thick fog. Yes, that’s me you can see up there, I am at the top of a slide placed in the Building Society where my father worked – I can still just make out the cashier sign behind me. Every Christmas “The Woolwich” would organize a party for the kids. Cute socks and shoes, a ribbon in your hair and a lovely party frock, was the dress code.
Having recently been retrenched by a certain global insurance company at the age of sixty, (well, actually not so recently, Aug 2014, but time flies when you don’t have to go to work!) I have to tell you that I really don’t want to find myself in a corporate office environment ever again. What to do?
Wow, it felt so good to actually put that in writing! Now I know what I don’t want to do. I call that progress.
Retired, re-done-did, part-time worker or volunteer?
So you may have gathered, and you may have even experienced it yourself, that it’s quite confusing to be made redundant just a few years before you can claim a pension and five minutes before you were about to take your long awaited long service leave. How glad I was to not be a commuter any more. Who wouldn’t rejoice at not having to go to work? It took me a while to get over the rejection that’s for sure. It took me a while to figure what the hell I should do now. How to behave now that I actually had TIME – I’d been waiting years for that and now that I had it I didn’t know what to do with it.
Why a Website?
Starting this website was a milestone for me because I have often said I am going to start one, but never found the time. I have concerns about my financial situation and my expenditure, but I have jumped in with both feet and invested the vast sum of US $300 in myself. As you can see I am a great risk taker.
“OK ” I hear you say, “you don’t think you’re worth very much do you?” lol . . . Hopefully, that will improve in the near future as things get up and running. If nothing else it kept me busy while I sorted myself out.
The power of dreams
My dream is to be able to buy a house for my family. Right now, being obliged to rent, they have no security or stability, never knowing when their drains are going to get fixed, when they are going to have to move, how high their rent is going to go, whether the agent will turn up for an inspection when he says he will (your time is theirs you know) or who their neighbors will be next year. I’m glad they believe in the Secret. As for myself, I’m just gonna keep on blogging and trying to keep a positive attitude.
Suffice it to say that I would like to make a little bit of money by selling products for which I
may will in the future very soon receive some commissions, so please be aware of this if you see something you would like to buy on my “Shop with Maddy” page, coming soon in 2017! (See how reading the Secret has changed my attitude to positive?)
Yes I have maintained my positive attitude for sure. Maybe I have gone a little bit over the top – because the “Shop with Maddy” page has morphed into a whole website. Did you notice that I had taken all the ads off this one? You didn’t did you? And I haven’t posted here much of late due to finally going overboard and filling all of that time that I didn’t know what to do with. I’ve developed an obsessive interest in movies. I’ve been educating myself with free online courses. I’ve been doing a little bit of gardening and a lot of exercises. I’ve even done most of my housework.
I’ll let you know when that other site comes on line. When it does, I will be back to this blog permanently.
Thank you so much for visiting!
P.S Every visitor helps, so please share this page with your senior family and friends. If you are not familiar with Twitter, Facebook, Google or Pinterest, just click the envelope and it will take you to your email so that you can send them a link.
