It is my great pleasure this month to introduce you to my Guest Blogger for April, Franci, who blogs at Brew N Spew. Franci can always come up with a happy poem no matter what the topic. Today she is going to tell us a little bit about herself.
Older and wiser?
You know the saying “the older you get, the wiser you become”? Well I hate to burst your bubble, however, there is no guarantee that we (you and me) are going to become any wiser as we age. I believe we can become more seasoned but climbing the chronological ladder doesn’t necessarily makes us wiser.
Who are “they”?
Living a rich and full life can expand your thoughts, so “they” say. Well, who are “they” anyway? I have heard this forever and a day folks, and still don’t know who “they” are; and frankly my friends, I don’t care. I moved on from “they/them” long ago because we never met. It is who you are and I am that’s important. Don’t you agree?
I will be honest with you, I love coffee and drink a lot of it. I lace it with cinnamon and/or nutmeg; or even chocolate. I am a motivated person, without much coaxing, and the coffee just magnifies my bubbling. I was brought up on chicory coffee, as my mother always had a pot brewing on the stove. Mom was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, and that was her choice of brew. Chicory coffee was the traditional favorite of every New Orleans native in her day, and probably still is.
So, I got a little off track with the chicory coffee, and that is okay. My post seemed to be leaning too much toward a motivational read and that is not my intent. I tend to veer off in different directions at times, however, once I pass GO I find my way back without much difficulty. I write like I talk – pretty obvious isn’t it? Ramble, ramble, blah, blah, blah.
Now that we understand each other –
um whoops, now that you understand me, let’s move forward.
Here are some guts to my post, meaning some stuff about me. I know you’re just chomping at the bit to know, right? I am 70 years old, born and raised in Orlando, Florida before the mouse. Before the mouse means before Disney World, in case you didn’t get it. I guess you had to be there.
My youth – briefly.
I attended college In Fulton, Mo for 2 years. I wanted to continue my education at FSU but my mom became ill and my education was shuffled to the back burner. I returned to Orlando to be with mom and landed a job at an insurance company. I also modeled, taught runway modeling to aspiring “little miss” contestants, and had some exposure to being an extra in commercials. I married at 23, divorced at 30 and moved to Ft Lauderdale. I was lured by big bucks and life in a glitzy city. Um, no regrets.
I then moved to Tampa, FL for bigger bucks and a more interesting position. A single girl has to live, you know! By the way, no regrets.
Can’t find the book? Read the blog . . .
I could write a book about my life, however, patience is not one of my virtues, so I am moving along with my blog. I remarried a wonderful man with a loving family, which I cherished. Since I was an only brat, with no immediate family, I adopted this family and they adopted me. He and I decided to move from Tampa to Hollywood, FL and open our own insurance agency. After 9 years of a lovely and fulfilling life, he passed away. I didn’t handle that so well but finally pulled myself together to move forward. A life experience with no regrets except the last act could have had a better ending.
I remarried for a third time – you know sometimes I think I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but lack of companionship has no merit to it, in my opinion. We lived in Marlton, NJ, which I enjoyed immensely. We were in NJ for several years and eventually moved back to FL. I guess it was for a reason not known to me at that time, as he passed shortly thereafter. Another life experience with no regrets, except for the last act.
I said to myself “no more marriages for me!”. I couldn’t handle any more life changing events of this caliber.
So, a single babe I was and I worked constantly. A great way to keep my mind in good order. I’m sure you have figured out by now that this is only a briefing of my past. As I said before, patience is not one of my virtues and my 70 years has been quite eventful.
I found I didn’t mind being single, as I had a great group of friends and my own apartment. I lived in Ponte Vedra, FL, which is a beautiful area and famous for it’s professional golf tournaments.
Let me say that I am forever grateful that through most of my life, I have been employed; and I must admit the insurance industry has been good to me. A job is a job is a job. Yeah! No regrets.
I guess it was meant to be that I meet someone again. We were introduced by mutual friends, and he was married at the time. He wanted to date me! Ha!
I said “phffft – no way I am getting involved with a married man”!!
Never say “never”
Well, lo and behold, we have been married 11 years now. We lived in Jacksonville, FL until I was transferred to Atlanta, Ga in 2012. Again, many thanks to the insurance industry for a career and giving me the ability to relocate and retire. We just recently sold our house in Jacksonville, which now we are free to travel and just love, live and laugh. Um, no regrets.
Speaking of laughing, my husband keeps me in stitches, which I love to laugh. He missed his calling in life because he would be a fantastic comedian. Blessed with the gift of gab and showmanship – what else can I say. Yep, it’s just the 3 of us – myself, my husband and Amanda. Amanda is our cat and yes, the little diva rules! I have heard her say…
silly humans, don’t they know how high maintenance I am? – mawrrrr.
It is a good time in our lives, as we have each other and our health. Knock on wood on the health comment. Driving to little mountain towns is our favorite pastime as we enjoy the scenery, quaint restaurants and bars, and meeting people. Several of the posts in my blog pick up on our travels. We would love to have a condo or cabin on a golf course – yes, a golf course because my husband loves golf; loves to watch and play, and he is a good golfer. No regrets, indeed!
Yes, I love to blog, as it fills the void of over 40 years in the corporate world. I like to be active and keep going physically and mentally. It keeps me young and in the know. I have met so many lovely and talented people, in the world of blogging, and I am very grateful for the experience. Truly, no regrets.
There comes a time in life
lest we meet no strife
There is the need to run, and
define the meaning of fun
Oh please, my knees
a time of shaking or quaking?
Hurdles here and hurdles there
Let’s see how well I fare
Life, don’t do me wrong
I must stay strong
It’s me I want to be
can you not see?
I will never be blue
while I am with you
So life, while I’m here
I want to instill cheer
I promise my best
with no regrets.
Cheers! 🍵 ☕️
